“The program will feature mostly Medieval music: all written by, for, or about women – in various roles as mothers, friends, lovers, and royalty. Works will include anonymous troubadour and secular songs from France, motets by Dunstaple, Dufay, and Power, an early Italian madrigal by Jacopo da Bologna, and the premiere of a new piece by Director Emily Ostrom, featuring powerful poetry by South African writer Mishka Hoosen-Lewis.
The music will be paired with paintings by Seattle-based artist Trung Pham, focusing on Mothers from his perspective as a Vietnamese-born immigrant. “A portion of all ticket revenue will support nonprofit relief of immigrants, as well as families experiencing food- and housing-insecurity. Nonprofit beneficiaries are Northwest Immigrant Rights Project, The Hope Center, The Church Council of Greater Seattle, and Mary’s Place.”
