Babak Daneshvar is a celebrated musician, composer, and educator specializing in Traditional Persian Music, with a career that spans decades of dedication to preserving and innovating this rich musical tradition. Born in Tehran, Iran, in 1973, Babak began his musical journey in 1991 by studying the Santour, a traditional Persian instrument, under the esteemed Maestro Mohammad Azari. His passion for music led him to the University of Tehran, where he majored in Music and deepened his knowledge and skills under the guidance of legendary Persian music maestros, including Majid Kiani, Alireza Mashayekhi, Dr. Azin Movahed, and Darvish Reza Monazzami.
Expanding his expertise, Babak studied the Barbat (Oud) with renowned instructors Arsalan Kamkar and Mohammad Firouzi, further enriching his versatility as a musician. During his university years, he began sharing his knowledge as an instructor of Traditional Persian Music and Santour at the Iranian Academic Center for Education, Culture, and Research.
In 2001, Babak established his own music school, where he and his siblings taught various Persian instruments to aspiring musicians, fostering a new generation of talent. Over the years, his dedication to music has taken him across the globe, performing in prestigious venues and international music festivals. Notable appearances include the Fajr International Music Festival in Tehran, the Silk Road Festival in Germany, Dialogue of Cultures in Azerbaijan, and the International Music Festival of Algeria in Algiers, among others. Babak has also performed in Afghanistan, Turkey, England, and the United States, captivating audiences with his deep connection to Persian musical heritage.
Babak’s artistry extends beyond the stage; he has contributed to several album recordings of Traditional Persian and Folk Music and created original compositions for Iranian television. He also composed and performed original scores for documentary films, including Soltanieh Dome and The Laundry House.
