Early Music Seattle is pleased to announce that Antonio M. Gómez will join Early Music Seattle as Director of Partnerships and Education. With more than three decades of experience working in the performing arts, K-12 education, community engagement, public media, and as a percussionist, Tony is well-positioned to support EMS’ new mission to offer early music performances and educational experiences that bring people together and amplify intercultural and generational dialogue.
Most recently, Chief Engagement Officer at Tacoma Arts Live, Antonio M. Gómez, focuses on creating economically and culturally accessible arts experiences for all ages – from afterschool programs for youth to event and exhibition curation. He recently founded and administered ACE (Accelerating Creative Enterprise), an incubator serving 140+ BIPOC and women entrepreneurs in the creative and cultural economies. A former K12 teacher (bilingual kindergarten and high school social studies, Spanish, music), Tony has designed curricula for PBS and arts nonprofits, serves on the faculty of ArtsWA’s Teaching Artist Training Lab and has taught at the Port Townsend Early Music Workshop. He is a past president of the Western Arts Alliance, co-founder of La Sala Latinx Artist Network and has collaborated with WA Cultures and Humanities Washington. A working percussionist, he co-founded Trío Guadalevín, which examines Latin American music as an expression of intersecting Indigenous, African and European influences. The trio’s NEA-funded partnership with Washington State Parks explores music and memory in Latine communities. Tony collaborates with various West Coast ensembles including Pacific MusicWorks, Orquesta Northwest, Tacoma Refugee Choir, and Tango del Cielo. His exhibition on music and culture, LINEAJES, premiered at the Frye Art Museum in 2023. Tony completed his MA in Education at UC Berkeley and has studied music and culture in Latin America, North Africa and Southern Europe.
